To all Gill's Customers,

     I would first like to start by thanking all of my customers that have supported me these last four years.  Secondly, but foremost I would like to apologize for the conditions of the facilities at the McHenry Dam.

    The parks buildings. well, and bathrooms are nearing 60 years old.  When constructed they did not anticipate the 1,000,000 visitors we get yearly.  The existing well and septic field, coupled with only 2 flush bathrooms, typically leads to problems.  Last week the park had to again close the bathrooms as they could not keep up.  I'm continually embarrassed that we do not have handicap bathrooms available.  Food service tends to be slow at times, due to or lack of space and food selection limited due to lack of storage, but we can only work with what we have.  There is no space to eat out of the weather but this was not in the original plan but is now included in the new design.

    For these thing I apologize and will work to improve.

    For the last several years the park has been number 1 on the capital development list, but no money is ever been approved for the work.  The typical response, is that there are no funds.  In the meantime, other projects, lower or not on the list, continue to get funded and completed.  To this they have no answer. 

    The park needs an legislative advocate.  At the bottom of this letter I have included the phone numbers and email addresses of or local State Representative and State Senator.  If you would please take the time to email or call both of these gentleman, and leave your message of support they may get involved.  This website gets over 1500 visitors a month, if we could all take a minute to send a few short messages maybe we can attract their attention in Springfield.  I have spoken to both offices and they welcome the response, so please feel free to send several messages, daily if you have the time.
